1. Greeting

Dear colleague:

As a ways of greeting and to share with those of you who were unable to attend the Ordinary General Assembly, where the previous Board bid farewell, we inform you that you will soon receive a copy of the annual report and a summarized report about the four years we leave behind, which was presented by the outgoing president Carlos Tabbia. You will notice that it’s a dense report, both for the quantity and the quality of the work one can perceive it entails.
The new board thanks, in behalf of everyone, the work accomplished by this last Board and all the previous ones.
In the Extraordinary Assembly, where the new Board had to be voted and there was only a candidacy running, Montserrat Palau, as candidate to the Presidency, read the program that we transcript below and under which we intend to work the next four years, since the assembly gave us 44 votes in favor, none against and none null.  We want to thank those of you who were present and those who send us your vote by mail for your participation effort. We hope to be deserving of your trust. Many thanks.

The board

  PROGRAM

Part of this “candidacy“ comes from the previous board, which ends today, and this is a sign that reinforces the wish of all of us who present ourselves as a unitary candidacy to be a Board that values what the retiring Board and the previous ones have done until now, thinking that we must continue with this work but bring new things as well.

We think that the ACPP is currently in a situation in which many basic functioning elements are already consolidated, thanks to the previous boards that made it possible :

We have by-laws in effect
There are very established functioning structures: mainly, secretary and treasury,
There are well established and defined associative contacts: AEPP (Spanish Associations of Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy), FEAP (Spanish Federation of Associations of Therapists), EFPP (European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy).
We have a functioning TRAINING SCHOOL of Psychotherapists psychoanalytically oriented.
We have the journal REVISTA DE PSICOTERAPIA PSICOANALITICA DE L’ACPP and the bulletin BUTLLETI DE L’ACPP.
We have consolidated the CONTINUING EDUCATION ACTIVITIES, the INTENSIVE SEMINARS and the scientific activity of the second Thursdays of the month with the “ACPP CONFERENCES”.
We have an established ASSEMBLY OF TRAINING MEMBERS.

Well, we could live from those dividends. But as a team running in these elections we want to contribute with some new things.
We are an Association of Psychotherapy Professionals. We therefore believe that it is important to work for this group. We think that it will be good to work in two lines of action. First, attracting new members. And second, seeing to the opening of new fields of work for our associate members.
Both objectives are closely related.
We have an association with a group of good psychotherapists, qualified according to the by-laws, which takes care of the appropriate training of its members, and we can offer ourselves as professionals guaranteeing a good level of training for groups who need services like the ones we can offer: good psychotherapies. We are thinking about groups like the CSC (our public health system), Healthcare Plans, Patients’ Associations, Services of elderly care, groups of psycho-somatic patients...

However, we think that in order to be able to offer all these services, besides the practice of the kind of psychotherapy that is, let’s say, more orthodox, that is, individual psychotherapy for as long as needed, we must promote in our association the practice of the application of new techniques when applying psychoanalytical psychotherapy. We already have a Groups section, but we must think about considering other techniques like Family Psychotherapy, Mother-child Psychotherapy, short Psychotherapy, limited time focal psychotherapy... Specific techniques for specific nosological cases: treatment of first psychotic break outs, of disorders in the first and second phases of adolescence, of the elderly, of psychotics...
We think that in order to be good professionals of these different fields, it will be useful to have contact with Europe, see how our neighbor countries organize their psychoanalytical psychotherapy treatments: Italy, Germany, Great Britain, the Scandinavian Countries, Switzerland, Portugal ... We think that this will be an important task of the EFPP delegates, forming a good work group. We also believe that it will be important to have contact with Catalan institutions and those of the rest of Spain. Working basically with the organizations to which we already belong as an association or others to which our members belong, in order to provide our support to each other.
And we believe that all this will help us to look after our profession of Psychotherapists. A profession that is currently becoming very important. On one hand, the regulation of health Professions where the figure of the Psychotherapist is not contemplated, only those of Psychiatrist and Clinical Psychologist – although with restricted functions- and, none of these two health specialties guarantee training as psychotherapists. It will also be necessary to take into account the difficulties it represents, already in the present time, for the new psychology professionals to attain the degree of Clinical Psychologist. In order to work on these questions we think that we must work very closely with other institutions like the FEAP, the AEPP and the Professional Associations of Psychologists. On the other hand, the users or future users of health care are increasingly demanding a type of care not based on psychopharmacs but in the emotional understanding of their conflicts.
Now there is some talk, here in Catalonia, about the implementation of Psychotherapy programs in the public health system. We must see to it that Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy takes a dignified role, in order to be taken into account by the SCS and the different business organizations of the health sector with agreements with the SCS. That’s why we must be trained professionals, highly trained, to respond to today’s needs without losing this appropriate scientific education that we can guarantee as an association of professionals of psychoanalytical psychotherapy.
If we look back to the origins of our association, of which the Board that ends today has just finished organizing its 25th anniversary celebration, we came up from the PPIP Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy in the Public Institution, and what was almost exclusively a wish, a little more than 25 years ago, we want to work now to make it a reality.

This is a sketch of our program. As you can see, it seeks continuity and it is also partly innovative.
We still don’t know how we will organize ourselves internally.
We ask for a vote that implies your trust on us as a team capable of carrying out this program beyond the particular individualities of each one of us and the way we will organize ourselves internally.
